On 1 November 2022, the "China Story Germany Story" Photography Exhibition, curated and executed by InterCulture, opened at Sun Yat-Sen Memorial Library in Zhongshan until 15 November. The German and Chinese photographers' lenses take visitors into China and Germany to appreciate the unique beauty of their landscapes, the cities and daily life. As the old Chinese saying goes: “when both beauties are respected and cherished, the world will become one.”

The exhibition is one of the key activities of the " 2022 German Cultural Festival in Zhongshan", jointly organised by Zhongshan Foreign Affairs Bureau, Zhongshan Culture, Broadcast and Tourism Bureau and the German Consulate General in Guangzhou.

Art can cross time and space, transcend national boundaries and spread friendship. Photography is not only the art of light and shadow, but a poetry and painting in a fixed frame. On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Germany, we hope that this photography exhibition will serve as a platform for exchange, enhance mutual understanding between the peoples of two countries and promote mutual appreciation of cultures. The German National Tourist Board Beijing Office has provided the exhibition with a wide range of excellent photographic works on humanistic monuments, natural landscapes, life scenes and tourist landscapes, which enables us to learn that Germany has not only well-known cars, soccer, beer and manufacturing industries, but also desirable tourist destinations. Zhongshan City invited ZHANG Zhan, a contributing photographer for China National Geographic Magazine and a local photographer from Zhongshan, to provide a series of excellent photography works on a variety of topics for the exhibition. These photographic artworks show wonderful images of the beautiful mountains and rivers of China, the prosperity of society, historical architecture, and intangible cultural heritage, expressing the Chinese people's love for the motherland, their attachment to local culture, and their pursuit of a better life, showcasing the splendid humanistic pictures and the vibrant development scene of Zhongshan.

The "China Story & Germany Story" photography exhibition shows that the two countries share many similar and beautiful pursuits, and that there are many emotional ties. Through intercultural exchange, InterCulture hopes to connect people from different countries and bring them closer to each other. Art, as a non-verbal medium of communication, can help and inspire people to understand different cultures. We hope that in the near future we can go further into each other's landscapes, cities and lives, to experience first-hand excitement and friendliness from each other's countries.
