Introduction:

On April 17, 2021, COVERED CULTURE will meet the public in the communication space of Guangzhou, which is also the first exhibition of communication culture. COVERED CULTURE is a "Social Composing" project jointly launched by the Goethe Institute in East Asia with the German composers Brigitta Muntendorf and Moritz Lobeck.

This project integrates the voices and images of Beijing Queer Choir, Weimar German National Theatre Opera Choir and many singers and performers from China, Japan and South Korea into a virtual choir. Both the choir and the audience will access a table designed by Japanese architect Kato, and create a social sculpture with the help of the vibration exciter.

The communication space is located in the Hu's Ancestral Hall of Huangpu Ancient Port in Guangzhou. In this ancestral hall building with a history of more than 300 years, the artist places his works on the mirror, and the video images are projected onto the layered hanging mesh. The history and the present complement each other, forming an illusion of crossing time and space. This local transformation will bring a completely different audio-visual experience to the public, and also provide a new attempt and possibility for the exchange and exploration of eastern and western cultures.

Under the framework of the "Another Beethoven" project, "Covered Culture" is produced by Goethe College in cooperation with Karlsruhe Art and Media Center (ZKM), and is supported by Weimar German National Theatre, Shanghai Museum of Contemporary Art and Feili Acoustics.

Partners: Beijing German Cultural Center · Goethe Institute (China), Cultural and Education Office of German Consulate General in Shanghai, German Consulate General in Guangzhou, Karlsruhe Art and Media Center, Berlin Radiation System Theatre, and Feili Acoustics.

More tour venues: Berlin Radiant System Theatre, Shanghai Duolun Modern Art Museum, Seoul Circular Alternative Space, Beijing German Cultural Center · Goethe Institute (China), Kyoto Riverside Hotel, Tokyo International Theater Art Festival.
